The Truth

The truth is that it’s empty
This smile that I wear
The real one was left behind
When I said goodbye to you in prayer

The truth is that I’m crying
Though nobody sees my tears
And whenever I find laughter
I’m left wishing you were here...

The truth is that it’s painful
Though I seem like I am strong
The void once filled now empty
Where only you belong

The truth is that I always knew
What your kindness wouldn’t say
The sharp, bitter bite of reality
There is no somehow, someday

The truth is that I can’t go back
To who I was before
Like a rose, I fully bloomed
And now my petals line the floor

The truth is that I’m not alone
He holds me in His arms
Heaving, aching on my knees
My broken heart begins to warm

The truth is that it’s only Him
Who sees and feels my pain
And I plead that in eternity
He will gift me this love again
