The transition

The family all gathered to consort as the doctors turned off all life supports. They moistened her lips with a lollipop. Shortly after her breathing stopped. She looked at peace, her eyes fixed far away, not a trace of pain on her face that day.. She lingered for a farewell kiss, was so well loved, would be sorely missed. Hovering above her vessel so worn, aware of their wails as they deeply mourned. The room now empty, absolutely stark, her lifeless body alone in the dark.. She sensed a bright light and embraced her journey as the hospital staff placed her body on the gurney..

A wonderful yet sad write. I have watched them die/it is no fun. Our very dear friend found her husband dead in bed a week ago. Great for him/hell for her. Have a blessed day writing away.................

A fabulous creation, Nancy. Your poem reminded me exactly of what happened the moment my mother-in-law passed. You've captured that 'transition' moment beautifully with imagery and rhyme. Have to fav this, hugs, Sara

Wow a lovely description of leaving this mortal realm. We are souls, not bodies

Hi Andrea, It's true. We all needed to be reminded that the soul doesn't die. Thanks for your visit Ms. exquisite (seriously you are very gifted dear).

Oh Nancy this is so sad.. my father died 13 years ago today and as he lay there dying after a battle with cancer and finally a stroke, I used to wet his lips with not a lollipop but cotton... your poem is deeply emotive and you described it so well..

Hi Silent one, Several of us have had similar experiences saying good bye to aging parents as this is so relatable. I think it's the current world situation and suffering that keeps bringing up some sad poems. It's not my nature or style as I strive to keep things light usually. It wasn't based on any personal current loss though. Thanks for your visit.

Nancy your experience seems a distressing moment characterized by silence and a void in thoughts, and culminating in a poignant farewell. This evokes deep sadness and elicits profound emotions, demonstrating the artistry employed in its execution. Thanks for your comment on my page

Dear Sotto, Fortunately I have only seen two people on life supports but I have been with family, some friends, and one stranger as they cross over. Thank you for visiting and for such encouraging comments. God bless.

This literally just happened to my mother a few weeks ago, including the wet lollipop part. My belief is she is at rest until the day of return

Oh Dear Tom, I am so sorry for your loss. Absolutely she is free now. God bless her soul. Doesn't it seem odd at times how we seem so connected here spiritually?

Thanks so much for your feedback Dear Reginia. I've seen four people pass in this life and it's not a current event in mine.

Dear Anne Lise, we should be sending our thoughts and prayers to Tom Woody (see his comment) as he just lost his dear mother.
