The Time of Candles
The Time of Candles
The time of candles brings a solstice cheer
That lights the gloom and dark this time o’ year
An advent line-up of four red, one white
That decks the kirk in festive delight
With waxy scent and fragile flame of hope
And halo upon a lighted wick that probes
And breaches the night to pave the way
With heartening glow when times are gray
They must present midst laden Yuletide fare
Upon the Christmas table centered fair and square
Like the fairy on the tree, the candle holds a place
As a symbol that adorns and fills a special space
As a gift, the scented candle really is a treasure
A romantic offering and a plethora of pleasure
The time of candles in those dark and midnight months
Now hastens on to lighter days when Spring we must
We look ahead to what has gone and what befell
And to the time of candles we must now say fare thee well
