The Task I Ask
I asked you for sushi
but you gave me rice
and told me you thought
that a change would be nice
I asked you for apples
but you gave me seeds
and told me to plant them
and tend to the weeds
I asked you for sunshine
but you gave me burns
and said that the sun
shouldn't be my concern
I asked you for rainbows
but you gave me rain
and one little aspirin,
no water, for pain
I asked you for letters
but you gave me space
and told me these things
were just too hard to face
I asked you forever
but you gave me nought
I'd like to implore you...
but don't think I ought.
