The Swimming Pool

Watch the people in the pool As they kick and splash, Knowing that their pool days Will be over in a flash. Noodles, tubes and swimmies Help to keep the kids afloat While the grown-ups stand there, cooling off And trading tales of note. The only thing you rarely see, As summertime is dimming, Is anyone (with few exceptions) Actually swimming!

I know that people are standing around in the lanes now, so swimming is impossible.GRRR.Thanks for the reminder; it exasperates me!

And I thought my sense of observation was superior! Your observation is light years ahead of mine, Ilene. Not a pool swimmer myself when younger – the chlorine burned my eyes – I much preferred a fresh water lake and swimming underwater. / Maurice

You're right about that Ilene, maybe they should call it something else. Tom

You know, Ilene, I have noticed that, too. I suppose it's the cooling off part that most adults are looking for. I know when I'm in a pool, I don't swim...just sort of relax and move about and enjoy it. Good poem.
