The Summer Song
(Volga is the longest river in Russia and in Europe.)
There is silence above the Volga,
there is evening above the Volga,
and a lass sings on the river’s bank
accompanied by the wind.
The lass sings about summer:
The summer soon will go away
and will not burn with poppies and cornflowers,
to give us aromas of violets.
Summer will go away
together with wild strawberries
with carefree days and with romantic meetings.
Ah! How sadly the lass sings...
But our summer still is with us!
