The Stepping Stones

The bridge lay broken across the brook
perplexed, the traveler, long he stood
look at it as a stumbling block
the minute hand ticking in the clock
to find a way out of the tangle
decide to make a short ramble
to find whether he can step on stones
should be near ones and like clones
at last, he found a place nearby
where the stones lay each to each close by
it would be a balancing act
slip from a stone and fall flat
he must not wet his leather shoes
but the prospects lay dim without clues
he is about to give up the plan
when a bright idea in his brain cells sprang
he'd take off his shoes and hold in hand
place a foot on the slippery stand
for a while, he stops to wander
about his life and goals he ponders
like the stepping stones on the way
reach goals of life day by day
