The Star

I once knew a star
   That lit up my life
It lit up my days
   Along with the night
It's brilliance so bright
   It blocked out the sun
Outshined every star
   That the universe spun

This star was so special
   That i followed it's light
I followed it's path
   And trusted my sight
The rays from the star
Filled my dark life with joy
Something i haven't felt
   Even as a young boy

But, this star, it betryayed me
   And right from the start
Used it's white hot bright rays
To burn a hole through my heart
It blinded my eyes
Got me lost on my way
Turned my daylight to dark
   Only nighttime, no day

This star nearly killed me
   From blindness of sight
I kept falling and hurting
   I could only see night
'Till finally i stood
Turned my back to the star
Now my sight's comming back
   I can see very far

The star went away
Left me cold in the night
Though fearful and lonely
   Other stars shined for light
I'll miss the bright light
   But i remember it's cost
And the lesson it taught me
   Will never be lost.
