The Stag
Only the males bear antlers,
Heavy crowns shaped by winter winds.
He carries what the world asks of him,
Still, he moves forward
His antlers speak in silence,
Broad arcs declaring he will not yield.
Strength is shown long before it's tested,
Still, he moves forward
Among the herd, order settles quickly,
The tallest crowns guiding the path ahead.
He learns his place through patient winters,
Still, he moves forward
From the ridge he keeps vigil,
Eyes steady on every shifting shadow.
Guarding others becomes his quiet duty,
Still, he moves forward
When winter takes his antlers,
They fall like memories into snow.
He stands lighter, but not unbroken,
Still.
New velvet rises from old scars,
Soft beginnings shaped by patient days.
Strength returns in gentler forms,
Still, he moves forward
