The Sparrow My Friend

The Sparrow My Friend

After morning stretch exercises
in a garden near my home
I was relaxing sitting on a bench
suddenly a sparrow from a banyan tree
fell down just before me
she was badly injured
perhaps some merciless poacher
might have thrown stone at her
her wound was bleeding
and needed immediate first aid
she was groaning in pain
seeing her cry in pain
my eyes began to shed tears
and felt as if someone
wounded my heart by a sharp arrow
immediately I rushed to a veterinarian
and after treatment
I took her to my home for proper care '
until she was recovered fully
I could feel her pain and pang
and put her in a cage for rest
I gave her to eat
bread and cereal grains
slowly she began to recover
and one day I found her
chirping and skipping
until now we had become
very good friends
I had no other option but '''
to release her from the cage
one fine morning I released her
for ever to fly in the blue sky
my happiness was in the seventh heaven
today for the first time in life
I could understand
the real meaning of freedom'
I spent many sleepless nights'
