THE SONG OF MY FATHERLAND
The Song of My Fatherland
I sing of my fatherland, bold and free,
The land that gave birth to you and me.
With rivers that flow and mountains so high,
Under the wide and beautiful sky.
I sing of the soil so rich and deep,
Where farmers sow and children sleep.
The sun shines bright, the rain falls kind,
My fatherland is one of a kind.
I sing of the trees that dance in the breeze,
Of birds that chirp in gentle peace.
The forest wide, the valleys green,
The sweetest sights I’ve ever seen.
I sing of the markets, noisy and full,
Of women strong, and voices cool.
Of roasted corn and peppered meat,
Of happy children in dusty streets.
I sing of the drumbeats loud and clear,
Of dancing feet that bring us cheer.
Of old wise men with tales to share,
Of cultures rich, beyond compare.
But I also sing of pain I see,
Of leaders blind to you and me.
Of youths who roam with empty hands,
Of hungry cries across the lands.
I sing of roads with holes and dust,
Of promises broken, of leaders we distrust.
But still, I hope, I still believe,
My fatherland has gifts to give.
I sing for peace, I sing for light,
For justice fair and equal right.
For schools with books and clinics neat,
For food to eat and shoes for feet.
Oh fatherland, I love you still,
Through every storm, through every hill.
May we arise, both strong and true,
And build a land for me and you.
