The Soldier's Return

The Soldier’s return

David is coming,
The time’s drawing near
Long have I wished for
The end of the year.
Loneliness, misery,
This I have known
Now all is ended
For he’s coming home.
Eagerly, anxiously.
Watching the clock
Awaiting the moment
His ship will dock.
My arms are aching
Him to enfold
Warm are my thoughts
As I wait in the cold.
Hopefully, hurriedly,
Scanning each face
As thousands of soldiers
Invade every place.
At last, he is here!
Praise heavens above,
I find in his arms
The peace of true love.

I liked the rhyming and the story too. It's not easy to make short lines flow as well as you did. I enjoyed it.
