The Simple Things

The smell of fresh cut grass
Reflections of childhood
Oh how the time does pass
It's the simple things in life that mean the most
Blue skies, corn fields, a freight train heading to the coast
A free car wash from a surprise summer storm
Watching a short story or poem take form
It's the simple things in life that bring us bliss
A cracking fire, lightning bugs, a salty kiss
The simple things are there right before your eyes
Just take a moment to look around and you'll realize
That it's the simple things in life that make us smile
All to remind us that the journey is worthwhile
