The Silence Is My Stage

I find it most difficult to write
When I am mentally disturbed
I've been sitting here for an hour
And I haven't written a word.

My mind is cluttered
With unimportant things
Then I have to leave my desk
Just because the telephone rings.

What makes it so bad
Is when I answered the call
It was a phone recording
It wasn't anyone at all.

Once again I get started
With pen in hand
There goes the ring
Of the telephone again.

I will not answer it
I just will not
But this continuous ringing
Has got to come to a stop.

I'll unplug the telephone
I'll turn down the ringer
Better yet! I'll put the answering service on
All it takes is a touch of a finger.

Finally, I have peace of mind.
Complete silence - and plenty of time.

The writing goes well
There is page after page
I don't want to stop
The silence is my stage.

I live quite happily sans telephone. It seems what is important to other people is very seldom important enough to me to warrant disturbing my day. Aloha! Rico
