The Ships
My course plotted on chart,
starry night,
gentle rumble of engines.
This is the start of the beginning
Forging ahead,
I map my way,
through seas I glide,
compass by my side,
I choose my path
Calculation of speed
and heading
Where am I going?
These are the things i'm dreading
For I have a rondezvous
with you
Time and distance,
the distance from you
You, plot your course ,
through seas you will glide.
Will you arrive by my side?
For two ships must meet,
same destination,
different heading,
no mean feat
Why do iIchoose this compass heading?
Will I make my rondezvous?
With you?
For you are so many miles from me
For I have the things you lack.
Will I change tack?
Are you ahead or behind me?
I cannot see.
This dark of night
with no sun to guide me,
no line of sight
I must rely on skill,
for you are so many miles from me.
To make this rondezvous with you.
Sky and endless sea,
separates me too
Six hours of dark
to go
Where I end up?I dont know
Your ship can pass me in the night,
for you have no light.
Is it me ,you'll see?
The ships that pass in the night,
have they lost their way?
Or their sight?
I cannot say.
For my ship glides through the sea,
compass true,
for I cannot find you
For you are so many miles from me
