Science and poetry can go together
The Seasons and the Sun
By Franklin Price
9/24/2018
The Earth's always rotating
In its orbit 'round the sun
Its tilt upon its axis
Causing seasons to be run
Day and night are shorter/longer
As the light and dark are cast
The seasons four are equal
As the sun is going past
Fall is now upon us
It started only yesterday
Determined by the time it took
To pass the light away
Fall's daylight time is equal
To the daylight start for spring
The only time within the year
It's an Earthly orbit thing
Daylight now gets shorter
Some two minutes every day
Every year it happens
We the People have no say
Will get shorter until Winter starts
On the shortest daylight time
Then longer every day 'til Spring
It's the rhythm and the rhyme
The longer days not stopping there
Only marked to equal fall
Days ever longer until Summer
The longest daylight time of all
Then shorter ever shorter
Through the Fall to Winter cold
Those are the reasons for the seasons
At least, by science, we are told
Fall is time to settle down
Winter time is made for rest
Spring brings life again to earth
Summer's growing time is best
