The Saucered Moon

The saucered moon neath haloed crest
Hung sweetly in the evening sky
And lacking love among the blest
I stood and pondered fate and sighed

I sought to capture vision fleet
That I might save 'gainst storm and snow
But like that moment passing sweet
Whence and when's not ours to know

Were I to catch the smallest light
Before it sets upon this day
I'd count myself among the stars…
     Unnumbered, yet in heaven's sway
