The Saint

She was always praying in her dreams, the middle of the day. On Sundays it went without saying her boys had gone astray. She boasted ‘bout his education, told them he was working full-time. Never concealed her adoration, led one to believe he was a little Einstein. But everybody knows her dinner table has an extra chair and that her hope abandons her with every prayer. Everybody knows she’s stronger than denial; the saint’s praying to a God who sacrificed his child. She promised things would get better when she caught him with tears in his eyes. She said that she would do whatever it took to have him smiling at her side. She started asking more questions and never judged a single answer. But the boy had learned too many hard lessons and she feared there was one yet to occur. Cuz everybody knows her dinner table has an extra chair and that her hope abandons her with every prayer. Everybody knows she’s stronger than denial; the saint’s praying to a God who sacrificed his child. She just wants to see him smile, she wants her boy to be happy. But every attempt is futile, the one thing he must’ve gotten from his daddy.
