THE SACRED AND PROFANE

Thy beauty lasts but for a moment in my mind
For worldly maidens die to quick and silent beats in time
While angel’s continuing choruses do loudly sing
A clear and constant melody of eternal spring

On the breath of this immortal love
All gardens bloom and fade above
The ancient cry of winter’s repenting
Lone, full, silent and unrelenting

Cascades of unknown dreams come tumbling down
Past sacrifice and sacrament new found
And come to rest in an eternal silver star-filled pool
Where the secrets of the sacred world again reign full

There the faces of constant angels shine out bright
From the reflected surface of the water’s divine light
As we are held in constant trust and love
Of the eternal sacred presence of paradise above.
