The Road Ahead

(His Version of The Rearview Mirror)

As I drive away from the girl that I love the truest love I have ever known, I wonder to myself why do I now feel so alone?
The road ahead is a long one with many choices and paths to take, do I stay on the straight and narrow or take the road that leads to my fate?
I already know the outcome, I can see the collision up ahead, I know what will come to be, I have already witnessed it in my head
And I would do anything to stop this, from preventing this wreck to be, but the accident already happened and is already killing me

Eating me up from the inside twisting my emotions into knots, knowing that even if I don’t, sadly a part of me wants to get caught
So that there can be retribution for all that I have done, I hit you like a Mack truck and then I chose to run
To run away from the choice that I made, the one that is haunting me, and I want so much just to turn this car around, but the accident has already been wiped clean
There is not a single trace of the impact that happened so slow, and as I drive further away from the scene in my heart I know

Nothing will ever hurt this much, no accident could be this bad, it has taken everything away from me all that I wanted, but will never have
I seen it there in your eyes as I left you knew I would never come back, I never meant to hurt you in any way, but I can’t take my wrong turn back
And you walk away unscathed with only menial scars, but no one can see the real damage that is displayed on your heart
I never meant to drive away after I came to see you, but please know the road that I ended up on is not the one that I wanted to.
