The Red Cardinal
Listen to poem:
The Red Cardinal
David Walker
His voice was sure and clear
“It was my mother”
He said, casually
As if he had forgotten to
Mention her arrival
The red cardinal was
staying near where
she could keep an eye on
Her son
Soon to follow her home
Had we known should we
Have opened the door and
Invite her in or
Was that for him to do alone
When he hears her voice singing
Calling him home
