The Red

She told me
she used to have
my exact same shade of hair
when she was younger

Then she pointed
to her graying locks
as if to say...
“This is what you have to look forward to”

I didn’t have the heart
to tell her mine was dark auburn #8B
from a box
Putting my hand on her shoulder
I said “you look great!”

She said
“I miss the red”
