The Reason
The Reason
You gave me a reason to open my eyes,
Showed me the sun, blocked out their lies,
You gave me a reason to lift up my head,
To dare to believe this despair could be shed.
You gave me the gift of joy in my heart,
Asked nothing of me right from the start.
I hope that one day I will stand by your side,
Failings exposed, no excuses supplied.
Defenceless and nervous, excited you see,
So scared that you’ll be disappointed with me.
I know I’m not perfect, very far from,
But with time and with practice, perhaps I’ll become
Less of a nightmare, not quite so dumb,
Perhaps you’ll be proud of the things that I’ve done.
I wish I was better, I wish I was smart,
God I really wish I knew how to take part.
I pray one day I’ll believe when you say,
That I was the reason you smile every day.
