The Rattle
Everyday I wake
To the same old snake
Waiting to partake
In all my old mistakes
Everyday I contemplate
Taking the bait
Until I can’t see straight
Ignoring my abnormal fate
Everyday I detect
The weakness resting on my neck
Trying to redirect
The ways in which I reflect
Everyday I portray
The enemy, the prey
I must obey
Or I’ll surely pay
Everyday I wake
With that same old snake
Hissing lullabies of ache
It gives, it takes
