The queen of Persia

Of days not so long ago
a girl child was born
in the lap she sought so often
for she was an orphan

With kith and kin
She grew into a beauty
That stole the heart's ache
Of none other than the monarch

Her origin thus kept a secret
She became the kings favourite one
For she stole many a heart
Only to play a queen 's part

Esther was bold and
never did she tell the
The truth of her origin
Lone then was now a sovereign

The king did plot
One dark night
To kill the people in his land
But the queen sought his hand

Is it for me you did bestow
the crown that I now bear
Upon my life punish me
behead me even though I belong to thee

The king fell to his knees
I shall not speak of it again
Although born of strife
you are my wife

Thus did Queen Esther
save all her countrymen
And removed the hate
For her people stood at stake.
