The Price Ii

I watched the most beautiful man
being led in shackles today
no one could tell me His crime
much to my dismay

ashen was the color of His holy face
bloody stripes left their trace
upon His back so strong and fair
from lashes dealt so unfair

He healed the sick, gave sight to the blind
made the lame walk again
so why was He in chains
can you tell me what was His crime

as they brought Him from the jail
shouting justice must prevail
the angry mob must be appeased
so they took our Lord to His knees

stripped of His dignity
and spat in the face
not once did He complain
He gave only love and grace

I watched as they tied Him to a rail
and beat Him with the cat of nine tails
perfect flesh now bleeding and bruised
someone please tell me of what He was accused

I heard someone say
"He says He is a king
so lets make Him a crown
for everyone to see"

then they placed upon His brow
a tightly woven thorny crown
as they pushed it into place
I saw the tears and blood streak down His face

they offered the angry mob a trade
and they chose for our Lord
to take a murderers place
a sacrifice that must be made

I watched as He had to drag His cross
to Golgotha's hill of death and loss
then they ran a sword through
even stripped Him of His garment too

throughout the pain and all the strife
he never once complained
for us to have everlasting life
He knew this was preordained

He cried out with so much love
Father forgive them for what they've done
upon the hill that day died three
a murderer, a thief, and my King

and after three days in the grave
He arose to live again
nail scars in His feet and hands
to save the souls of every man

Anyone who seeks to bring about great change is persecuted, anyone who threatens the current order (government) is destroyed if not by deed then by slander. I think you may realize this but perhaps not? Light & Love and a low profile

I felt like I was watching a very good movie, TuLisha. Great timing, too, with Easter coming. I posted an Easter-related poem today, too. Guess we're all getting in the spirit now. Lent has gone on too long. I'll have to check out more of your work! Best wishes, Carolyn
