Notes About The Poem
Another Stairway poem

The Poor and the Dead

THE POOR AND THE DEAD
It's a long night ahead
and a morning to dread,
for the weak who have too little time.
They will bark at the moon
sing a song out of tune,
though it's known, who they are is a crime.

They are one and the same
who have passed on the flame,
in their hope for another new dawn,
to the morning they dread
of the poor and the dead
and their dying to keep holding on.

In the Word is the way
and their time's right to pray,
if they only had reason to see
but too long in their head
have the poor and the dead
all become what we'll all come to be.
