The Polar Bear

When visiting some family
Who live several hours away,
We know we’re very close
When there’s a welcoming display.

A more-than life-sized polar bear
Is waving from his spot
On Route 290, giving all
The biggest smile he’s got.

I love to see him from the road,
His friendliness implied,
But also since I know
We’re at the tail-end of our ride.

What a welcome sight- the polar bear, and he (she) smiles upon you.

Very insightful, methinks... I used to feel the same way about 'Dino,' the Sinclair Dinosaur. (Did you have Sinclair Gas out East?). We used to see him when we got within shouting range of the Wisconsin Dells on a number of Summer Vacations back in the day. Sweet penning, Ilene! :) gw

Wow Ilene you must live up north somewhere if this is true. Enjoyed how you viewed the Bear. It must have been a surreal experience for you. Thanks for sharing...

Hillside landmarks are quite a treat, especially in Europe where they have been maintained for centuries, but with leaders like Putin & Trump, they may not last as long as your poem! Aloha!

Googled it and, nothing available. Must be a bigger one in Texas.

A fun and I guess, factual, write, Ilene. What a great landmark to mark journey’s end. Terry

Such a great piece Ilene, they are truly wonderful creatures, in fact was watching them on a new series of frozen planet on BBC in UK and they are incredible indeed. Blessings always,Gordon
