The Poet's Test

Count the nights you could not sleep
Though you've tried your best
The words inside just would not keep
This is the Poet's test

How many times do words spill out,
As you go through your day?
If your answer is many, there is no doubt
Your muse had something to say

Have you stopped what you are doing
To give way to your muse?
Is your mind continually reviewing
Deciding which words to use?

Do you sleep with paper and pen,
Somewhere beside your bed?
To free the words that's trapped within
Your muses sleepless head

If you answered yes to one of these
You've probably already guessed
You have that dreaded poet disease
You passed the poet's test

So many times I go to bed and think of a poem I'd like to write. I always decide to wait til morning to write it down, but when I get up it's gone! Oh well! Anyway, excellent piece. Enjoyed. Ralph
