The Poetry Zoo Trap
Everybody is a winner who plays any game,
They are not sitting in the cool of the shade!
They are out in the field of life.
Facing near any and all manner of strife.
They will have sincere fans that back them,
And others who can't wait to stab them.
That's called life...
The true ones go on playing as a strong team,
Not crawling to be number one, as if
that were sonething supreme!
Imagine running around with number one
on your chest!
As if that made you, a superior being, the
Top poet, the one who is best!
There are many poets here simply ignored.
But it's perfectly fine, they are not here to
be Número Uno on the poetry scoreboard.
This is not the Poetry Olympics! But wait.
It is for some. They must be the best..
That is their desired fate.
Let's see if their poetry can even touch a
Wordswoth or Whitman?
But alas, they laugh,as though those poets were
Odious hitmen.
Just write good poetry, so true to you.
Stay out of running in the poetry zoo!
Love other poets before yourself.
Then you will be number one on your own shelf.
And that's how it should be, I do think,
With a pride in your poetry, never popularity.
Art is in not in big numbers made,
But by thoughtful crafting like beautiful
brocade.
We know the swift words casually penned!
And wise enough to see a poem as
an art form, and we sigh..Amen!
