The Path That Had No Light

I took the path that had no light
The darkness was it's king
And down this path I walk alone
No friends or birds to sing

The dark around it stretches far
Beyond the seeing eye
It presses in on every side
And low as well on high

But though it's just me and the dark
O peace there is no sign
An endless storm now rages on
With rain of blood red wine

To drench the path down which I walk
And toss me side to side
Frantically I look about
But lo! No place to hide

Battered now I walk alone
The path that has no light
With darkness king his storm it rings
I fight the weary fight
