The past strewn across the future

15 Sept 2024 6:59 am

Walking up the hill
In Septembers morning chill

Scattered along the dim grey path ahead
Are the autumn colored leaves of the past and dead

As quiet as a dream they lay
waiting for me to pass their way

Seeing time that was... is future spent
Memories not yet made, spirits anxious translucent

Piled up as I pass them by
only the brightest capture my eye

The rest ill spent and forgotten
Cast away before their begotten

What a twist in this chaotic time
Too surreal for a serious mind

Who can understand this scene
This living moment of a waking dream

My heart is far away from here
In the future so far yet near

Will I ever catch and settle its need
Or will it for ever into the futures past speed
