The Past

I wanted to live the dream
Be all that life handed it seemed
I followed my heart, followed my schemes
But life had a different direction it seems.

I think about the years past
Broken dreams that did not last
We were friends but we both forgot
Different destinies is what we sought

Words we never said, never spoken
Promises we made but became broken
Another day, another year has come and gone
Time has passed away when all is said and done

Our memories remain in the distant past
The years have moved on rather fast
Time with all it shadows cast
Our paths once crossed but it did not last.

It is so strange when we cross paths with old friends and we can't seem to make that connection again. I enjoyed this one, dear.

This poem has a real feeling of melancholy to it Phillis, which made me recall some of my own sad memories. Beautifully written my friend!

G'day Phyllis... after reading your poem I felt a little nostalgic myself about those crossroads in life. From time to time we all think about those we have lost contact with. Thank you Phyllis - Lindsay

Thanks my good friend for your comments. Yes we do lose contact and as we get older we wonder what has happened in their lives.
