The Past

You very big ugly monster have overshadowed my happiness at night I lay sleepless you have stolen my smile these tears I have are my witness you soured my life's sweetness You very big ugly monster have foreseen my weakness the lack of my heart's fitness in handling heartache as an illness I cry because if I remain speechless then my whole life will be a sickness The past should remain in the past why are you passing on to my future In my mind I do not want you to last for you have become a torture Experiencing you was a nightmare I do not ever want to see you near me Like a foster parent I thought I could live with you but how do I live with a monster so errant You have ruined my precious life you are nothing important back off, my happiness is dormant I pass my past in the past for it has passed I pass my focus on to the future for my happiness lies with it I won't let the past with no behaviour rest on my shoulders and be heavier **By Mkanya Anele*
