The Passage of Time

The passage of time
is slow and quick, fast and sure,
a joy and a struggle, a tear and a smile
 marked by sunrises and sunsets.

Weeks and months quickly pass to years
  and in the breaths between
  the movie of our life
flashes before us in fast forward stills.

Rewinds and fast forwards of happiness and laughter
of sadness, weeping, tears and loss,
of passion, sex and love and lust
and all its sorrows, hesitations and regrets.

The passing of time
  is here then gone
  without replay, pause or rewind
lost to shaded repeats and recovered memory.

If only I knew then
  what I know now
but for the passage of time
I may have lived a little differently.
