The Pain of An Empty Window
From the outside looking in
I can see as plain as day
What few others ever thought of
I guess I'm cursed in that way
If you look out
I bet you'll get to know
The pain of an empty window
It held a nose streak and some paw prints
That now live in my heart
I watched my grandma and my grandpa
Wave every time that we'd part
Watched my son learn to play ball
Not so long ago
That's a broken, memory I'll have you know
The pain of an empty window
I remember the first winter
She ever spent with me
We sat there under blankets
It was better than TV
40 years of Christmas lights
Strung out in the snow
Now how I miss, their soft romantic glow
Through the pain of an empty window
There was a nose streak and some paw prints
That now live in my heart
I watched my grandma and my grandpa
Wave every time that we'd part
Watched my son learn to play ball
Not so long ago
That's a broken, memory I'll have you know
The pain of an empty window
Saw my last child off to school
How did time pass so fast
Its hard to see what memories
Are reflected in the glass
If you look out
I bet you'll get to know
The pain of an empty window
