The Other Side of the World
At 6 A.M. I heard the news
And the updated score
Of a tennis game just being played
On the Australian shore.
The match was close to over,
Competition at its height.
How weird that I was waking up
While there it must be night.
Though I’ve crossed to other time zones
Where I’ve had to change my watch,
Sometimes just a small reminder
Kicks awareness up a notch.
So I think of Raf and Roger
Slicing bullets, fast and deep,
While I tossed and turned in Dreamland
In a less than peaceful sleep.
Perhaps my mind had traveled
To that tennis match down under;
Maybe being on the other side
Made Roger lose his thunder.
