The Open Window

Through the open window
Came the wind and came the rain
Came the cries of hungry people
Came the feelings of the same
Came the smell of death, the smell of fire
Came the heat of tempers growing higher
Through the open window
Came all the troubles of our land
Came the bigots, came the hatred
Came the players of the plan
Came everyone from everywhere
Who had a troubled mind
Came asking only for my help
Just a second of my time
So just to show my feelings
To let them know I know
I rose and walked across the room
And closed the freaking window!

Mdailey Circa 1967

This probably won't win any prizes in the contest but when I saw the challenge, I thought I might have something in my files that would fit the bill. This poem is over 40 years old - written when I was in my late teens.

Thanks for entering my contest Mike with one of your golden oldies and congratulations on your HM. This one reads to me like a true Daily Poem - you have kept that magic throughout all these years. Love the twist of addressing your problems by simply closing the f'n window. Too funny, too original, and too classic. Joe
