The One and Only Me

Together, we were a team
Together, we had it all
You would gently hold my hand
Together, we took down the wall.
But everything is now past tense
No more "us" or "we"
It's another page, a new chapter
Of what will never be.
The walls of my room are empty without your music
They cry, "Save me! Save me!"
My heart is now as empty
As empty could ever be.
I call your cell
Longing for it not to be true
But it just rings til I hear the dial tone
Cutting off all ties I had to you.
People always say the same thing,
"Breaking up is hard to do."
But this wasn't just a little break-up
It's the end of a love I believed was true.
I just want to stay here
And listen to the rain
That's falling all around me
So I can wash the world away.
Since then, I've walked so far
And now I can truly see
That the only person I really needed
Was the one and only me.
