The Night Before
THE NIGHT BEFORE
‘T was the night before Christmas, everything to set.
Catnee my sweet pet accompanied me gifts to get.
I put the Christmas Tree at corner of garden gate.
close to pet’s territory getting nice view at best.
Beneath tree all the gifts I arranged and spread.
showing traditional norm, golden stars on shed
String of lights hung from fence of flower bed.
‘No chance of storm’, weather news predicted.
On branches of tree I hanged jingle bells to ring
Around the neck of Catnee, with bells I tied a string
Cheerfully she started ‘mew-mew’, jumping and running.
Practicing carol fine went joyous Christmas evening.
Next morning catastrophe shattered all.
Catnee made massacre, pulled string of lights to fall,
torn stars, chewing wrappers, kicking bells as ball.
Messy all over, toddler crawls as I gave a loud call.
