The Night

Night arrives
Silent
With only whispers
From the day past

Leaves sway
silently
Rocking themselves
 to sleep

 Streets empty
 dark
 only lamp posts
 light the pavement below

Birds silent
Hiding
In their secret
sanctuary

Lost souls emerge
looking
For a home
Somewhere

Lucky ones
Rest
On their pillows
Worry-free

Time stands still
Briefly
Peace at last
 Dreamless sleep

Soon daybreak
 Stirs in the silence
awake
Once again

The day begins
Deafening noises
Turmoil
Night has gone
