The Newly Wetted Ground
Walking on the newly wetted ground,
After a long spell of Winter drought,
I ponder how rain never fails to astound:
This valuable shower we can't do without!
As I tread on the browne'd earth
Browned by the shower of yester-night,
I wonder where I got such a worth:
To be watched with such close oversight!
Someone's delivering service to me,
Loyally, like an hotel room keeper!
Yet there is a dichotomy:
I pay nothing to the caterer!
There is some love expressed in rain.
It's not only soothing but sustaining as well.
Especially after a long drought strain,
I rejoice that some rain fell!
