The Newly Homeless
She sits on the ground in
front of the seniors building,
where I live, staring into oblivion;
Trying to figure out or
Understanding how she got there.
She had food to eat. And could not eat.
Nowhere to go to, no keys, no electricity.!
It was only a few days ago.
That she cooked in her kitchen.
Now she sits on the ground.
She screamed out
" I have food and can't even eat”!
Hunger, desperation, confusion;
Plagued her fragile existence.
There was no one left to care.
Jail or death. When yesterday, before the lights went out.
Before the locks were changed. She had hope.!
She wailed out again, the most critical issue of all the issues.
" I have food and can't even eat it",
and then she retreated within.
Where she could soulfully question herself.
But found no answers, and again
She’d stare profusely into nowhere;
And made no more sounds.
