The New Kid
Dad was quiet
Mom argued
So we
Moved
Around
Frequently found myself
The new kid
In strange neighborhoods
Meaning that I constantly
Proved myself
By being particularly observant
And articulate
Detached and
Skeptical
Skills I needed
To survive.
Years later
Things calmed down
I thought life was pretty much what you made of
A long journey
On a twisted road
Worries were the load
That weighed me down
But at the end of the trip
The best part was
When the load came off.
Then I felt better.
