The Need to Belong
We don’t just live we need to feel,
A hand to hold, a bond that’s real.
A place where broken parts can stay,
And not be judged or turned away.
Because this world can make you small,
Like you don’t matter much at all.
Like you’re just passing, just a face,
That never truly found its place.
We search for people, hearts that see,
The parts we hide, the parts we be.
The quiet wounds, the silent cries,
The truth we bury deep inside.
We want someone to say, “I know,
I see your pain, you don’t have to go.”
To sit with us when we fall apart,
Not fix just stay, and hold our heart.
Because belonging isn’t loud,
It’s not approval from a crowd.
It’s in the ones who choose to stay,
When you’ve got nothing left to say.
It’s in the silence, safe and warm,
A shelter in an inner storm.
A place where you don’t have to pretend,
Where you can break… and still be held again.
But what if you’ve never had that space?
Never felt seen, or known, or placed?
You learn to build a world alone,
To turn your emptiness to stone.
You laugh out loud, you play the part,
While quietly guarding your fragile heart.
You say “I’m fine,” you wear the mask,
Because connection feels too much to ask.
And still… the need is always there,
A silent hope someone will care.
That someone sees beyond your skin,
And gently reaches what’s within.
Because to belong is not to hide,
It’s being known and still not denied.
It’s being chosen, fully seen,
Not just the parts that fit in between.
So if you’ve ever felt alone,
Like this cold world was never home
Just know this truth, deep and strong:
We are all built…
to need to belong…..
