The Much Anticipated Beach Day

Vanished is the sun that had peeked so exuberantly around the clouds! Our new beach chair that broke sits taunting me. The castle that our children built (and then declared it grand) lies unrecognizable, a washout on wet sand. One tire of our dune buggy is deflated, and I hold inside my hand a too-warm Coke that once was icy cold. Feb. 20, 2019 for Nina Parmenter's Reflect That Emotion Poetry Contest

Bruce was the inventor of the Dune Buggy. He passed Monday well into his 90's.

Love how rich the concrete details are. Love how they speak for themselves. Congratulations, Andrea!

I love how your poem builds on the 'when it rains it pours' phenomenon, when absolutely nothing goes right. A great poem of dashed hope and disappointments, Andrea. Congratulations on your wonderful win. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

WoW! Andrea, You did a good job with the contest theme. Isn't that terrible when our day doesn't go as planned? In each stanza the "reflection" was on point! I'm sure I will see you on the winners list. I wish you the best of luck in the contest.

This is ingenious! 'One tire of our dune buggy is deflated' -- a good metaphor for the letdown of a to-be-wonderful day that never got there. Good fortune to you in the contest! I like the many-leveled, but easily recognizable emotion that you picked!
