The Mourning Dove

THE MOURNING DOVE The car hit the dove. The driver knew it, but he kept driving, without even slowing down. It was a case of hit and run accident. The dove lay on the side of the road lifeless. His mate came to check him out. She knew it was nothing she could do. She screamed for hours and her loss lacerated the day.
