The Milky Way
Trying so hard to sleep
hours past dusk
in darkness I lie in my bed.
I am being nudged by words and words
dancing and teaming up in my head.
I fight, I toss and turn, they win
I must get up and say what must be said.
I go outside to fetch some firewood
I look up at the cold and clear sky
and there I stood.
How could I even try to describe
with empty words like twinkle,
sparkle and shine?
There is no ambient light in sight on my hill
every time I see this endless blanket of stars
my heart jumps with joy and is thrilled.
I do not feel the cold on my skin
this beauty is such a gift, such a miracle
I do not wish to go back in.
Soon there will be someone here to share,
someone to have and to hold
living with me on my hill, with the stars so very near.
