The Mighty Oak

What a mighty artwork of nature So tall and strong Birds perch on its stout branches And sing heavenly songs Squirrels scamper along its Hardy trunk Gathering nuts I suppose Its branches full of green Cast shadows on the most likely things It’s leaves turn golden, red, and orange What a delightful sight, The tree so bitter and bare Doesn’t cast a shadow here or There It shivers in the cold night air Hoping for spring hoping for change To gather its green leaves And cast shadows once again
