The Message of the Cross
The Message of the Cross
The Message of the Cross
Is foolishness to those perishing.
But to us who are being saved,
It’s the power of God refreshing.
The wisdom of this world
Is foolishness to God above.
Christ’s sacrificial crucifixion—
A mighty measure of His love.
The message of Christ crucified
Was to the Jews a stumbling block;
To the Gentiles foolishness;
To both a type of roadblock.
God chooses the foolish things
To confound the wise.
Fishermen to tell the gospel—
Ultimately despised.
The Message of the Cross
Tells of God’s bountiful love;
Those who followed Christ,
Received his power from above.
For most were simple men
Not of higher education;
In simplicity God is glorified;
Needs no human wisdom of foundation.
God wants us to boast
In His power from heaven;
His wise, precious word
By His Holy Spirit driven.
The Message of the Cross
Will forever be lost,
To those seeking man’s wisdom;
Eternal death their cost!
